[POSTED: 12/05/09] - I have a neighbor who has no internet to access neighbor to neighbor and needs help re the fan that comes on every hour and freezes her house. Her electric bill is running @175/225/mo and she is freezing! Anyone who can help her resolve this please call nancy at 769-9819. She will appreciate your help. [POSTED: 12/05/09][1637] - There is a bigger problem than just the fan running. When was the last time any maintanance was done to her A/C and Furnace units? Does she change her A/C filter regularly. Just a fan running cannot cause that high bill.A similar question has been asked and answered many times. Following are the responses to those: webmaster: [POSTED: 11/10/09][1215] - RE: Furnace Fan...I have the same problem, but heard there is an adjustment you can make on the furnace itself. Problem is you have to get up there, take a panel off and get to it. If youre not too handy or agile it may require an electrician or someone handy.PS...Ill let you know if I get time soon to do it or have it done.Russ 714-553-0087 [POSTED: 11/10/09][1201] - Regarding the frequency the furnace fan coming on, we solved the problem by having it disconnected. Life is so much better. [POSTED: 11/12/09][1010] - Topic of fan on furnace. I flipped off the switch entirely once. A better idea for us was easy access to the control switch avoiding the attic climb. Hired an electrician yesterday to transfer switch to hall closet wall. Now we can turn on fan at will to freshen air, etc. [POSTED: 11/12/09][1600] - RE:Furnace Fan - - - Got it figured out but not a real ez task. If youre not handy I would guess $100 or so would be a legit price for someone to come out and do it for you. If you want to do it yourself, youll need to get up there and locate the units 2 panels. The right side panel is smaller and you can remove it with a flat screwdriver or nut driver. Theres a few wires (approx 6) that can be disconnected and they attach to an air circulator then to the unit. The up/down arrows is another way to try but mine were non-responsive for some reason. Also, when you take the panel off there is a toggle switch that needs to be enganged by hand to do this. Feel free to call me if you need help. Mine works fine now and I tested the A/C and heater...Russ 714-553-0087 [POSTED: 11/12/09][2011] - Re: Furnace Fan - Would like to have the name of the electrician who installed a switch in the closet - I dont like the idea of turning it off completely. Would you put the contact info here please? [POSTED: 11/13/09][1309] - Re: furnace fan you dont need a electrician its like changing the door bell, not much voltage.Once you take the panel off you can take off the plastic cover of the control box, there is a switch to turn the fan off then you look for the remote screws and attach bell wire and run it down to the closet in the kitchen, buy a timer switch you turn the switch for 5 or 30 mins. and it will shut off by itself. The old Ace hardware has the timing switches. Any questions you can call me Gordon 769 9183 [POSTED: 11/13/09][1910] - Shawn Court, formerly an electrician for Pulte Homes here in Solera before starting his own electrical co. Two days ago he transferred our furnace fan switch to hall closet wall Came on time. Works with daughter. Pleasant couple. Under $100. (909)237-5053,Shawns Electric. Now we have peace of mind and avoid mold. [POSTED: 11/16/09][1508] - As the furnace fan issue rages on - Id like to offer the following information: One of the reasons the furnace fan - or Fresh Air Exhaust System was put into the homes was for mold prevention. The following info came from Pacific Crest Home Inspections - an independent Washington firm: With the energy crisis of the 1970s, an entirely different building design philosophy began to take hold. In order to save energy, building energy efficient homes was the craze, and several government-subsidized weatherization programs were instituted virtually overnight. In the zeal to button up every crack, we sealed our homes without thought of the importance of fresh air and proper ventilation. Many of the newly invented building materials in use, have ingredients that out-gas (give off fumes). The new, tight, energy efficient homes we started to build did not allow for the escape or dilution of these indoor pollutants, thereby creating a whole host of problems. Also, hidden moisture problems due to overly tight construction (inside wall cavities, attics, etc.) began to surface, which were leading to an increasing incidence of mold growth, related health problems, and deterioration of the affected building materials. Tight, energy efficient construction is an excellent idea, and saving energy is also a good idea. But fresh air and no interior moisture problems are even better ideas!

[POSTED: 12/06/09] - Has anyone had a problem with a window spontaneously breaking? We had this happen this morning to the master bathroom window in our Emerald. I do know that Pulte had this problem with windows in their Las Vegas homes, but need to know if it is a problem here also. Could Pulte still be responsible for this? Call Vance or Cathy at 769-2591 or email vancath@verizon.net [POSTED: 12/06/09][1542] - Re: Window breaking - I have had one of the stationary windows in dining room crack completely across (stress crack from earthquake) - if you are an original owner the windows are still under warranty (ten years) - look for the product number on the inside of the frame and call MilGuard.[POSTED: 12/08/09][1725] - Thanks for the info on the window breaking. We contacted Milguard and they will be out to fix it under warranty.

[POSTED: 12/07/09] - Our smoke alarm is chirping in our Emerald bedroom and weve tried locating which alarm needs a new battery. The bedroom or the hallway one doesnt seem to have internal access. Has anyone solved this problem? Kept us awake 2 nights and we had to pull it apart from the mount. Thanks, Beth & Joe Dotan 845-6681 [POSTED: 12/08/09][1106] - Regarding smoke alarm battery, I was told to change them all once a year. |
[POSTED: 01/11/10] - Need to know a go-to person for a gopher problem in my yard. If you are going to give me hints on how to take care of it myself that is appreciated, but also please if there is a good service to call please let me know. I will probably end up taking care of this myself so if it is something a woman can do let me know or I will have to call someone. I have a small dog (who I can restrict from the backyard for a while if I need to). Thanks for your help. Nancy [POSTED: 01/11/10][1740] - Nancy, we had luck ridding our yard of gophers by placing raw onions in the holes. They dont like the smell, its a hastle finding their hole and placing a cut of onion in it. Remember that they will go some place else and hope you are on good terms with your neighbors. Its a cheap way to try at least before you call the professionals. Good Luck! Linda Donardt |
| [POSTED: 01/19/10] - Backyard Storm Drain. For those who may not know:
If you have a backyard storm drain, you will find a drain outlet in your front yard near the street. The drain outlet has a spring loaded lid. Grass growing over the lid will prevent it from lifting and your back yard may flood during a heavy rain. [POSTED: 01/19/10][1602] - Re:backyard storm drain. In my property the outlet at the street does not have a spring loaded lid but rather just a ground level grated guard.
